Merit Awards Celebrate Communications Excellence on June 28, 2000
 Springfield,
MA - The Advertising Club of Western Massachusetts held the 2000 Creative
Merit Awards (CMAs) on Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at CityStage at the S.
Prestley Blake Theater in Springfield, MA.
The
competition was open to any individual, agency, manufacturer, supplier,
advertiser or student headquartered in western Massachusetts or northern
Connecticut. Over 100 entries were received this year.
For
the second year in a row, the Show was hosted by the comedy troupe Disturbed
Theatre which delighted audiences with spoofs of commercials and edgy
commentary on the present state of advertising and marketing communications.
The
CMAs are the capstone of the Club's fiscal year which ends in August.
The organization was founded by Charles A. Stein as the Publicity Club
in 1909. Today, his efforts are remembered through the Charles A. Stein
Best of Show Award. This year's recipient was Bassette Printing of Springfield
for its entry "JVC Jazz Festival Poster."
